Pussy Play with E-Stim - A Caz Perspective

By Caz, co-founder of E-Stim Systems

Hi. I'm Caz.

Back in 2004, with my husband Wayne, together we created E-Stim Systems. He's the techy engineer. And designer. And I'm the one who runs the accounts, tries to keep him sane, and tests most of what we make. I designed the Bobble. Oh, and named the Moaner. People sometimes call me the Wifey, which I don't mind in the slightest.

I've been asked to write this article on vaginal play with E-Stim from the perspective of someone who actually plays with it. And has a Vagina. So I can advise from experience, rather than from the "this is what it should feel like" point of view, which is what a lot of other articles on E-Stim are all about. Especially as most of what's out there has been written by men, for women, about products designed by men, for women.

I'm going to try to cover both internal and external stimulation. What works for me. What I'd recommend you try. What to start with, and where to begin. Everyone's different in terms of what they do or don't prefer. And what works one day might be quite the opposite the next.

One quick note on this article. I'm going to call body parts what they are. Labia. Vagina. Clitoris. Not lady bits, girlie bits, or down there. The whole purpose of this article is to help you understand more about E-Stim for women, from a woman's perspective.

Safety first

Before I go into further details, I do have to cover safety. Like me, I'll keep these short. But I'm not going to skip them, because they matter, and because the rest of the article assumes you've read them.

For starters, E-Stim play always stays below the waist, unless you know what you're doing. The current should never cross the chest. What about my nipples, you ask?? That'll be covered in a later article. For now I'm going to concentrate on the basics. One step at a time. Once you've mastered the basics, making it more fun and interesting is a gradual progression.

One key tip: use water-based lube only. Not silicone. Not hybrid. Not coconut oil or anything else from the kitchen. Avoid anything silicone-based, as it can wreck silicon electrodes. And oil-based anything acts as an insulator, so the E-Stim won't even work properly. Water-based is the only answer. We sell ElectroGel, which is what I use, but any decent water-based lube will do.

Oh, and one extremely important tip. Don't put a condom over an insertable electrode. It will stop the electrode from working and you won't feel a thing.

Now that I've covered safety, it's time to get started.

Starting external - pads on your forearm, then your labia

You've just received your order and you're keen to get going. One thing I'd recommend: read the manual first. Then start slowly. The last thing you want is to pop an insertable into your vagina, whack the box up to full power, and end up stuck in the ceiling.

Also, if you're using this with a partner, don't let them control the box on the first attempt. When we first produced the Series 1 unit, the predecessor to the ElectroHelix, there was no way I was going to let Wayne loose with the controls the first time I tried it.

Time to start exploring the sensations.

E-Stim can be used internally with an insertable electrode, externally, or a combination of the two. Like a vibrator, except E-Stim doesn't make any noise (you might), and it's far more controllable.

For a total newbie, I'd highly recommend starting off with some gentle external play. And before you put anything on your labia or clitoris, try it on your forearm first.

What are pads, you ask?

E-Stim Systems ElectroPads Group shot

Electropads are surface electrodes with a layer of conductive adhesive gel. They usually come in a set of four, in different shapes and sizes. Small round micro pads, larger long pads, and so on. All our kits come with a set of standard pads. The main difference between shapes is the size of the contact area, but for what we're doing now, any of them will do.

We do have a separate guide on where to place pads if you want to read more about it.

Testing with Pads

E-Stim Pads on a forearm

Place two pads on your forearm, a few inches apart, and connect them to the control unit. Switch the unit on and slowly turn the power up.

You should feel a tingly sensation. Depending on the mode, your arm may twitch. Don't panic. That's just your muscles reacting. Your arm is not going to drop off.

Experiment with the settings. Different modes feel different. Different intensities feel different. You'll start to get a sense of which combinations you like and which ones you don't. Take your time. There's no rush.

One thing I always say when I'm talking about E-Stim to other women: close your eyes and visualise that sensation across your labia or inside your vagina. You'd be surprised how often a huge grin appears on their face.

That's the moment you understand what E-Stim is for.

Once you're comfortable with the settings, turn the unit off, disconnect the pads, and pop them back onto the carrier strip. They can be used more than once.

When you're ready, get yourself comfortable and relaxed, and place the pads on your labia. Make sure they don't touch each other. If they do, you may not feel anything. I always suggest placing the pads slightly over the crease of your inner thigh, on your labia lips just below the clitoris. One either side.

E-Stim Pads either side of the Labia

Connect the pads to the unit and start slowly again. Experiment with the settings.

And don't be afraid to change the placement. Find what works for you. Some people like the pads either side of their labia. Others like them either side of the clitoris, like me. It's all down to your preference.

Going internal - your first insertable session

Pads are great for external play. But what if you find yourself wanting a bit more?

Using an internal electrode is the next step.

E-Stim Electrodes - Will it fit?

We make a wide range of insertables in many different shapes and sizes. Everything from the tiny Micro Classic electrode through to the four-inch diameter 3.6Kg Decimator. I'm not saying go straight for the Decimator. Far from it. Well, unless that's your thing, of course.

A good starting electrode from a female perspective is the Flange or the Moaner. The reason I suggest these is that they have a wider base and a flanged edge, which sits comfortably against your labia. On some women it'll touch the tip of the clitoris as well, which is no bad thing. And I named the Moaner.

Before you pop anything inside, give the electrode a clean and get to know it first.

My suggestion: connect the electrode to the unit and hold it in your hand, making sure you're touching both the head and the base with the same hand. Check the level is at zero and then turn the unit on. Slowly start to turn the level up and you should find it's the same tingly feeling you got from the pads, but the sensations are rather different. I find insertable electrodes have a more rounded feel than the flat pads, and if your hand starts twitching, that's your muscles being stimulated.

Close your eyes. Visualise how that would feel inside your vagina. How that twitching in your hand might translate internally.

One disclaimer before we go any further. Not everyone likes vaginal E-Stim. Some women try it and love it straight away. Others try it and prefer to stick with external. Both are completely valid answers. The hand test will give you a sense of whether you want to take the next step or not.

Curiosity taking over? Good!

Turn the unit off and get yourself comfortable. Find a position that works for you, either lying down or sitting up. Some women like to pop a cushion under their buttocks to raise the pubic area up. Some find a vibrator helps to get them in the mood first. It's your choice.

If you're nervous or unsure, take your time. Don't rush. There is always tomorrow.

When you're ready, pop the electrode into your vagina. A layer of water-based lubricant over the electrode helps with insertion. Connect the cable to the control unit and before you switch it on make sure the levels are set to zero.

Slowly turn the power up. And I mean slowly.

You'll probably find that the setting that felt right on your arm or your labia is different from the setting that feels right inside you. That's down to how the vagina is built. The tissue internally is much thinner than the skin on your forearm or labia, is more moist, and there are a lot more nerve endings in the vagina. So your starting point is lower than you might expect.

Experiment. Find what works for you. If something feels uncomfortable, stop, take a breather, and come back to it.

The first couple of times I tried the Series 1 with the Flange electrode, I'll admit I was initially unsure. But the more I played with it, the more I found myself finding what felt right for me.

And one more thing. You may find the first time you try an insertable with E-Stim, you have a mind-blowing earth-shattering orgasm. Or you may not. Don't be disappointed if you don't. It just means your body needs to learn what works and what doesn't.

Everyone is different.

I would love to be able to say use this electrode, with that unit, on these settings, and you're guaranteed an earth-shattering orgasm every time. But that would be wrong of me to do so. There are too many factors that can affect how a woman's body reacts. So just breathe. Take your time. Don't rush.

The other electrodes worth knowing about

What about other insertables for females?

We've focused so far on the Flange as an ideal starting point for internal stimulation, but we make a wide range of other electrodes that work just as well.

One of my favourites, well, I did name it, is the Moaner. How did that come about? After a few play sessions with my trusty Series 1 and the Flange, I found that internally I wanted something that gave me a fuller sensation. Which is how the Moaner came about. Why did I call it the Moaner? Well, without going into too much detail, it certainly hit the spot. The first time I used it, according to Wayne, I moaned with pure pleasure. It has a lovely feeling, and yes, it's still one I use on a regular basis.

And then there is the Bobble electrode 😁

The Bobble

The Bobble was my pure design. I wanted an E-Stim electrode that would give me more internal stimulation and nestle against the elusive G-spot, which personally I do like to have stimulated when I can. If you look at its shape, that's what you're seeing. The neck sits higher up than on the Flange or the Moaner, so the electrode goes deeper and the contacts land where they're useful.

Why the red neck, you ask? I wanted something that made this electrode look different. It was designed by a female, predominantly for female use, although I do know plenty of men use it as well. The red worked. It became the badge of the range.

All of these are my favourites. My personal choice. But there are plenty of others in the range worth trying. What works for me might not be what works for you.

If you want an electrode that's fully inside you, with nothing sticking out, the ElectroEggs are the ones to look at.

They sit completely inside, a bit like Kegel balls, with a captive cable as the only thing on the outside. The shape means they nestle against the G-spot quite naturally, and because there's no flange or base, you're not holding anything in place. Pop one in, get comfortable, and let the E-Stim do the work.

They come in three sizes. I'd say start with the smallest. Once you know what they feel like, you can decide whether bigger is what you want.

E-Stim ElectroWands

The Bi-Polar ElectroWands are something I'd been pestering Wayne to make for a long time. Why, you ask? I wanted an electrode that was controllable as well as insertable. Something that could be used in multiple ways. Something that, for me, would become a steady go-to whenever I'm using the ElectroPebble, because it's just so versatile.

What I wanted was an electrode with a proper handle. Something I could move in and out the way you'd use a vibrator, while the E-Stim was running. The Flange and the Moaner sit where they sit. The Bobble sits where it sits. The Wand goes wherever you want it to go, when you want it to go there.

The handle also means you've got an electrode you can use externally. Run the tip across your clitoris, around your labia, wherever you fancy. It's the only one in this list that does both jobs. The handle is insulated too, so a partner can hold it and move it around inside you without getting zapped themselves.

I do like using the Wand both alone and with Wayne 😉. It has its advantages, and I find it can be very effective. Of the two sizes, for me the small one is the winner. Used solely internally it nestles against the G-spot quite nicely. And yes, there have been one or two mind-blowing orgasms as a result.

Adding a vibrator to the mix

E-Stim and Vibrators

Can I use a vibrator while using E-Stim?

The simple answer is yes, you can. Some people find that to reach orgasm with internal E-Stim they still need that extra little something on their clitoris. Myself included, at times.

I quite like to use a magic wand-style vibrator, like a Doxy or similar.

How does it work? Pop an insertable in. The Bobble works particularly well for this, but the Moaner or an ElectroEgg are good options too. Get the E-Stim running at a comfortable level. Then use your vibrator of choice externally, against the clitoris or labia, while the E-Stim does its thing internally. You may find that you reach orgasm very quickly by doing this, and possibly even more than once 😉.

What you get is two completely different sensations happening at the same time. The E-Stim is doing something internal, focused, and electrical. The vibrator is doing something external, broad, and mechanical. They don't fight each other. They build on each other.

A few practical things from actual use. Get the E-Stim settled first. Turn the power up to where you want it, let yourself relax into the sensation, and then add the vibrator. Trying to do both at once from a standing start can be a bit much.

You may need to adjust the E-Stim once the vibrator joins in. The vibrator changes how you feel everything, including the E-Stim. Sometimes I find I want to dial the E-Stim down slightly, sometimes up. Listen to what your body tells you.

Once everything is going, a wand vibrator can be tucked into position so you don't have to hold it. Frees up the hands for other things, or just for relaxing into the sensation.

The Eggs are perfect for this. Going back to the ElectroEgg point earlier — an Egg inserted, connected to a control unit, plus the Doxy externally, and you've got something genuinely hands-free. The Egg sits inside you doing its thing, the Doxy sits where you want it doing its thing, and you don't have to do anything except enjoy yourself.

And yes, this is one of those combinations that delivers the mind-blowing earth-shattering orgasms I mentioned earlier. You have been warned.

A word on lube and gel

E-Stim ElectroGel

We covered using lube briefly earlier, but here's some practical advice.

Firstly, only use a good water-based lube like our E-Stim ElectroGel. Water helps the E-Stim conduct properly.

Don't be stingy. A thin smear is not enough. You want a proper coating on the electrode before it goes in, and a bit on yourself wouldn't hurt either. The lube does two jobs at the same time. It helps things slide in comfortably, and it helps the current connect properly with the body. Skimp on it and you'll either find the insertion harder than it needs to be, or the sensation patchy when you turn the power on. Or both.

Apply it to both the electrode and yourself. A coating on the electrode helps with insertion. A bit on the labia and around the entrance to the vagina helps everything sit comfortably. Both is better than either.

Don't worry about getting it everywhere. Water-based lube cleans up easily. Soap and warm water afterwards and you're sorted. The kit cleans up easily too. There's no point trying to play sparingly when you're meant to be enjoying yourself.

If you're using the Wand externally, across the labia and clitoris, apply a small layer of lube to the skin to help conductivity, just enough to let the Wand slide smoothly. A light coating on the Wand itself too. And you may find that externally you need to turn the power up a bit higher than you would internally. There's a different amount of tissue between the electrode and the nerves, and that changes what comes through.

One last thing. If a partner is involved, say Wayne is holding the Wand or running pads on me, I usually do the lubing myself before anything else starts. Partly because I know what feels right for me, and partly because it gives me a moment to settle and get comfortable before the session properly starts. Your call on whether you want a partner to do it. There's no rule.

What these electrodes are actually made of

A quick word on what these things are actually made of.

All of our insertables - the Flange, the Moaner, the Bobble, the Wand — are CNC-machined from aircraft-grade aluminium alloys in our workshops in the UK, and can be connected to any of our control units by one of our 4mm cables. The ElectroEggs are made from the same material, except you don't need a separate cable, they come with a captive cable.

Whatever box you're using — ElectroHelix, ElectroPebble, 2B, Remote — these electrodes work with all of them. If you're not sure which box is right for you, we've got a separate guide on choosing a PowerBox.

Metal is a girls best friend

A few practical things. Metal conducts properly. That's the whole point. You want a good clean conduction surface against the body, not something that interferes with the current. Metal is also smooth, which matters when something is going inside you. Metal is also easy to clean. Warm water, mild soap, dry it properly, done.

There's also something about the feel of it. Metal warms up to body temperature quickly once it's in. It has a weight to it that plastic doesn't, which for me adds to the sensation rather than taking away from it. Our satin finish makes the electrode feel really smooth, and if you hold it in the right light, it has a slight glittery look to it. Which I rather like.

The other thing worth knowing: every electrode is machined to last, which is why all our insertables come with our unique Lifetime Guarantee.

E-Stim Scientist with an ElectroEgg

Oh, and one other thing. Going back to the ElectroEggs. Wearing one internally, attached to a control unit you can pop in a pocket or use one of our holsters with, can make doing the household chores just that bit more interesting. Just don't turn the power up too high if you're using the cooker or ironing 😉.

Closing thoughts

If you're still reading and have reached this section, congratulations. I haven't scared you away too much then 😊

Remember what I said at the beginning. Start slow. Try things. Pay attention to what your body tells you. What works for me might not work for you, and what works for you one day might not work the next. Come back to things that didn't work the first time, because sometimes they work the second.

There's still more from me to come, and I promise I won't try to go on and on if I can help it. In the meantime, experiment, have fun, and don't be afraid to explore E-Stim. 😊
